The work location was bridges in the Woodberry swamp on the lower reaches of the Hunter River, a freshwater wetland complex. The swamp plays an important role in removing pollutants from stormwater before entering the Hunter River. It is also home to threatened species of Golden Bell frog and Greater Broad nosed Bat that live under the bridges.
Being a swamp, access to the sites was difficult as well as environmentally sensitive.
Bridge and Civil fabricated components off site and installed the walkway in short rail possessions, often in the middle of the night.
