On 28th November 2012, the final 6 wagons of a 70 wagon fully laden coal train derailed while crossing the elevated Cox’s Creek bridge. The line serviced the Boggabri and Narrabri coal mines and the wheat harvest was underway, requiring multiple grain trains.
Bridge and Civil were engaged by ARTC to assist with getting the bridge open to traffic.
The damaged spans were removed and replaced with spans from the least elevated end of the bridge that, in turn, were replaced with a temporary embankment of rock.
We demolished and rebuilt several concrete piers, working 7 days a week to get the bridge reopened within a month.
