ARTC’s FY19 Annual Works Plan (AWP) includes a structures component for the replacement of stringers on the Glennies Creek Underbridge at 252.610km along the Main Northern Railway in the Hunter Valley. The bridge is a 4 span transom top steel bridge with timber transoms fixed to steel stringers. Further to this, re-railing of the Up Main was required from 252.785km to 253.180km.

The intent of the project is to improve the existing track reliability and stability at and surrounding Glennies Creek. This includes the replacement of old for new steel stringers, bracing and timber transoms over three (3) financial years, track formation reconditioning, and re-railing. Works are to commence on the Up Main, including re-railing works, before commencing on the Down Main.

Bridge and Civil were initially engaged by ARTC to complete the fabrication, removal, and replacement of 42 stringers and associated bracing and timber transoms on the Up Main. Once works had begun, ARTC engaged Bridge and Civil to complete the fabrication and replacement of the remaining 14 stringers and associated bracing and timber transoms on the Up Main.

Bridge and Civil were able to successfully complete the entire scope of works over 4 ARTC Scheduled Possessions.
